Introduction

Rough. Cold. Stern. Any of these words could be applied to Chattan, known as ‘Cliff’ to those few who have any personal connection to the massive bodyguard.
Growing up in relative isolation after the death of his parents, Chattan found himself a target for bullies who saw his quiet nature and lack of friends as a sign of weakness. However, those attacks quickly ceased. He stood like his namesake against any attack; a cliff that absorbed and repelled any attempt to scale it without complaint. No matter how hard the blow or how cruel the assault, he would withstand it as if he was made of stone.
Stoic, aimless, and unmotivated, he left school before graduation, turning the natural gifts of his size and strength to physical labor. In this, he excelled. No matter how difficult, unpleasant or degrading his assigned task, he would handle it with care, focus, and a lack of complaint that left some of his coworkers wondering if he was mute.
It was in his 20’s when he found his true calling…
Returning home from the docks in a cold November rain, Chattan heard a scream from an alleyway. Entering, he witnessed several armed men attempting to rob a woman, and quietly interposed himself between them and their intended victim. What followed could scarcely be called a fight, and at the end of it, Chattan stood atop the bodies of the attackers, silently pulling one of their blades from his arm. Once she had recovered, the woman he had protected passed him a business card for Blackwood Industries.
Without realizing it, Chattan had stumbled into the midst of an audition for a position as Delilah Blackwood’s bodyguard. Across the city, dozens of staged muggings had taken place to see who would intervene, and who would be able to withstand the dangerous situation that followed. For Delilah was looking for more than just a mercenary for hire- she wanted someone who was fully prepared to give their life in the defense of another without the safety and confidence of prior training. In short, she wanted a natural-born bodyguard, and her unorthodox tactics had paid off in spades.
In the following months, Chattan received the best training money could buy. Experts that first evaluated his prodigious natural talents, then began teaching him skills that would permit him to push even further.
Over the years, he has become a silent and imposing shadow to Delilah Blackwood and her daughter Chelsea; a quiet threat of violence and reprisal that lends weight to any argument the former makes, and a guardian angel to the latter. Oddly enough, he has become something of a father figure to Chelsea, though she is careful to keep that information to herself. For his own part, Chattan is content to watch, to obey, and to keep safe those who have granted him a purpose, and the closest thing to family as such a man can know.
