Introduction
I was born in Shiganshina District on March 30th, 835, in the southern region of Wall Maria to Carla Yeager and Grisha Yeager. Life within the confinements of the Walls was all I knew, yet even from a young age, I yearned to explore the world beyond. Despite the limited space and resources, I found solace in the company of a few friends, but none meant as much to me as Armin Arlert. He was not just a friend but a kindred spirit, someone who shared my burning desire to uncover the mysteries of the outside world.
Growing up in Shiganshina was not easy. Bullies roamed the streets, their cruel taunts echoing against the towering walls that caged us in. Armin often found himself the target of their aggression, and I couldn't stand by and watch. I became his shield, standing up to those who sought to tear him down. Together, we faced the ridicule and scorn, our friendship forged in the fires of adversity.
It was Armin who first ignited the flames of rebellion within me. One fateful day, he showed me a forbidden book hidden away in his family's home—a relic from a time long forgotten. Its pages were filled with tales of lands beyond the Walls, vast oceans, towering mountains, and sprawling cities. As I devoured its contents, a fire ignited within me, a burning determination to see the world with my own eyes.
The dream of joining the Survey Corps became my obsession, driving me to excel in my studies and physical training. But with that dream came the harsh reality of persecution. Our desires to venture beyond the safety of the Walls branded us as heretics, outcasts in our own community. We became the targets of scorn and ridicule, our every move watched with suspicion by those who feared the unknown.
Despite the hardships we faced, nothing could prepare me for the day that changed everything. Accompanying my father on a routine house call to the Ackerman family's home, we stumbled upon a scene of unspeakable horror. The Ackermans lay slain, their daughter Mikasa nowhere to be found. Panic seized my heart as I feared the worst for her fate.
Ordered to remain within the safety of the house, I couldn't ignore the gnawing fear that gripped me. Ignoring my father's instructions, I set out into the forest, determined to find Mikasa and bring her to safety. The trail led me to a secluded cabin, where the perpetrators of this heinous crime lay in wait.
With adrenaline coursing through my veins, I concocted a desperate plan. Feigning distress, I lured one of the robbers close before striking out with a hidden knife. The element of surprise was on my side as I incapacitated him, but there was no time to revel in my victory. The second assailant came at me with a deadly axe, forcing me to improvise with a makeshift spear.
In the chaos that ensued, I fought with every ounce of strength and determination within me. The wild frenzy of battle consumed me as I struggled to protect Mikasa and myself from certain death. It was a brutal dance of survival, each moment hanging precariously in the balance as life and death clashed in a symphony of violence.
But even as victory seemed within reach, fate had one final trial in store. Caught off guard by a third assailant, I found myself in a desperate struggle for survival. As the cold grip of death closed in around me, I urged Mikasa to find the strength within herself to fight back. In that moment of peril, she rose to the occasion, unleashing a fury that matched my own.
When my father returned with the Military Police, his anger was palpable. I had disobeyed his orders, endangered myself and others, yet in the face of his reprimand, I felt no remorse for my actions. The lives of the innocent outweighed any punishment I might face, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
