Introduction

Pavel Orlinsky descends from one of Imperial Russia’s most venerable noble lines, yet his restless mind refused the comfort of inherited privilege. After formally withdrawing from the family council at twenty-seven, he invested his entire share of the Orlinsky fortune in a network of avant-garde armament works, erecting factories in Tula, Izhevsk, and Saint Petersburg. There he pairs aristocratic taste with industrial rigor, overseeing the design and assembly of precision rifles, sporting shotguns, and compact pistols acclaimed from Warsaw to Vladivostok.

Outside the foundry gates, Orlinsky lives as intensely as he works. A crack shot and tireless horseman, he begins each dawn on the firing range or galloping across his estate’s dew-soaked meadows. Evenings find him perfecting haute-cuisine recipes of his own invention, reading Molière in the original French, sketching oil studies of Cossack chargers, or testing his mettle on the wrestling mat with cavalry officers half his age.
