18:57 Kay_McMann: Arriving at the venue the day of the fight with my gear in a shoulder sports bag. Smiling to the cameras covering the event getting fighter arrivals. I make a little heart symbol with my hands as I go through the door. Being shown to my changing room. "This way Kay" I get shown to my room which has some chairs and a small bit of blue and red matting in the centre for my warm up. I'm having a good conversation with my coaching team as I try to get comfy early. Slipping my shoes off and socks, keeping my tracksuit pants and top on as I take a place near the chairs on the floor so a friend can make a start on sorting out my hair for the fight. Doing a Ronda Rousey style double bun.
19:20 Karina_Fighter: I arrive at the boxing club ready to face an English gal 15 years younger then me, for my first defense of my recently one MMA Championship Title. I’ve not seen any videos of her fighting before, but I’m not terribly worried, she is 15 lbs lighter than me, and is 7 inches shorter, and I know how to use my reach advantage. Since she is only 21, she will probably have a great amount of energy to expend, but like I said, my greater reach and power should handle that energy in the way that I see fit.
19:21 Karina_Fighter: After entering the club, I go to my small changing room and change into a black sports bra and grey shorts with a lucky shamrock on them. As always, I will fight barefoot and after getting my hands wrapped with gauze, I put on my 4 oz fingerless MMA style Cobra gloves. Now its time to warm up, with some spinning back kicks and front snap lick kicks, and also shadow boxing, throwing out hooks, uppers and straights at an imaginary English gal. As the time to enter the octagon approaches, my assistant pops a clear mouth guard into my mouth, and smears a light coating of vasoline on my face. I’m ready to head towards the cage after the announcer introduces the challenger. yt
19:23 Kay_McMann: I try to regulate my breathing as I prepare for the fight, other fighters on the card making their way in. A good crowd of 2,000 at the local arena to watch some up and coming fighters. A little nervous and shaky hands but it's a big night and hopefully a good night for me. I chat to some of the other fighters. I start to get changed as night falls and the fights begin. I'm barefoot, my toes painted blue to match my corner colour. I 'll be fighting with taped hands with 4oz MMA gloves over the top, white with blue tape on the wrist. Wearing my Dare fight gear of a skirt and sports bra. My opponent is experienced with knockout power and plenty of great striking knowledge.

19:26 Kay_McMann: I hit pads as a warm up, the pads thudding in the hollow room echoing as I throw jabs, crosses, hooks and roundhouse kicks, some push kicks pointing my toes back for a nice stab. I get my red mouthguard slid in and vaseline on my face as it's nearly time to head to the cage.
19:37 Karina_Fighter: I’m now warmed up and ready. The fight before the main even has ended, one girl getting a broken nose and spurting blood all over the cage……but the cage has been cleaned and is ready to go. I listen at the door of my changing room for them to announce the challenger, and I’ll then go out second when they call me. yt

07:28 Kay_McMann: I get a knock on my door, I can hear the teams from the co main event coming back towards their respective rooms and I see it's my time to shine. I have a white hoodie with my team's name on it and flip flops as I make my walk. Up the corridor and through the curtain as I hear bad reputation by Joan Jett start to play. I bounce through the curtain to a packed small arena. Some tables at ringside for VIPs and regular seating behind. I get a decent reception as I bounce on the balls of my feet left and right on the way. Trying to get a bit of a game face on. I reach the octagon side and the doctor summons me, checking my gloves, nails, face. All okay as my team pull my hoodie over my head and I slide out of the flip flops. Putting vaseline on and slapping my face lightly."HUH"
07:30 Kay_McMann: I run up the steps and into the octagon taking in the atmosphere, a fast paced walk up on my toes, looking good in my colourful dare gear set. There is a stream of the fight so we do have a couple of small cameras on the outside of the cage and I spot one. I give it a smile and a double bicep flex before settling into my corner. Stood flat footed, hair in 2 buns throwing a couple of boxing combinations before I take a deep, deep breath and think about the fight to come. YT
09:11 Karina_Fighter: I can hear the applause, and know that my younger opponent is on her wage to the octagon. I wait a few seconds, and don’t wait to be called, I know it is show time and I walk towards the door to the arena and peak out. There is a good size crowd, and when the club manager gives me the signal, I walk out to the sound of Rocky Road to Dublin. The crowd goes wild, and I soak it all in, my first title defense. When I reach the steps to the octagon, I throw off my flip flops, let the doc check me over, and then spring up the steps and enter the octagon. When I reach the middle, I raise my gloves over head, pumping my biceps for the crowd, and give you a glaring look, before turning and taking up my side of the octagon. yt
09:46 Kay_McMann: I watch standing i'm my corner as you soak in the great atmosphere. You look strong as you flex. Giving me a glare. I try and keep my own mean mug on my face as I push my back against the cage wall. The announcer takes the middle as the music dies down. "Ladies and gentlemen. This is the moment you've all been waiting for. 5 rounds for the undisputed MMA championship. Introducing first. Fighting out of the blue corner! She comes to us tonight with a professional record 2 wins, 2 losses. Standing 5'6 inches tall, weighing in under the limit at 130lbs. Fighting out of Manchester ENGLANDDDD. KAYYYY, MIGHTY MOUSSEEEEE, MCMANNNNNN!" I keep my eyes closed semi smiling as I take in my entire introduction, nodding along until my name is called. As it is I step forward one arm raised fist clenched, the other making the peace symbol by my chin. Smiling and bouncing I bow to the champion and walk backwards to my side, pushing up against the fence. One of my feet flat against the cage wall.

13:51 Kay_McMann: I come out of my corner as we're called. I have my fight face on now, my gum sheild visible as you look bored. I keep my face with you as the butterflies take hold. I listen intently as we're told "I want a good clean fight, any questions? Touch gloves come out fighting" I offer you both my knuckles in front of me, mean mugging as I lean in. Yt
15:31 Karina_Fighter: I slam both of my gloves into yours, and return to my side of the octagon cage, and then the signal comes to fight. I move out towards the centre of the cage, watching your movements carefully. I form an orthodox boxing stance, with my left glove leading, left foot leading, trying to stay at a diagonal to you, bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet, starting to circle to my right. A couple of times I move towards you and then jump back, watching your reactions, but keep my guard up, ready to deflect strikes that you might throw out……yt

I have a slightly bouncier stance like a kickboxer up high on my toes, a slight side to side motion. You step in and out which makes me slip back out then in with you, keeping distance. 18:04 Karina_Fighter: You initiate the first assault of the fight, sending out a kick at my middle, but I am watching closely and step back quickly…..then you follow me with a jab cross combination aimed at my nose (target?), but my backward movement avoid the kick places me out of range, and your punches fall just short of their target. I then rush in at you, sending out a jab (left) at your nose, not expecting it to land, but maybe to keep your guard high, and then I try to swing out a right hook at the base of your rib cage followed by a stepping in closer to attempt a left knee strike at your right thigh……..yt
19:22 Kay_McMann: You back off as I come forward aggressive. You have me covering with gloves in front as you jab out and while it protects the body shot thuds against my ribs "ufff". You go for the knee strike and I shuffle back trying to not take 2 hard shots. I try and initiate a thai clinch instead, trying to engage both gloves around your neck trying to push you back and trying to throw a right knee up into your abs. My coaches encouraging me "keep the forward movement Kay" yt
21:00 Karina_Fighter: I feel my jab snap into your gloves, and then I feel my right hook pound into your ribs, but my knee only pounds empty air as you step back……and then you come forward on me fast, throwing both gloves around the back of my neck…I figure a knee strike is going to come at me, so I tighten my abs just before your right knee SLAMS into my belly just below my navel……ARGGGG….I wince from the pain…..and quickly bring my right arm up overhead, in an arch, attempting to bring my right forearm down on top of your elbows to break your hold on my neck, and then try to slam my right back fist towards your nose…….hoping I can break loose and reform my orthodox stance…..3yt

21:32 Kay_McMann: I manage to get a grip as you smartly tense and take the shot. With us being fresh and not sweating yet you manage to snake a forearm on my elbow and push. I start to disengage any way wanting to get at kicking range as your backfist pops out. I back away and circle high on my toes. I raise my front left knee and hop in looking for a body kick to the ribs, readying a left hook towards the jaw ready to follow. "Huhhh" 4yt

I see your knee pop up, as you are going for a teep kick, so I pivit to my right, my body perpendicular to yours, so that your foot brushes past the front of my chest rather than my ribs, and then your hook comes in, landing with a little less power because of my altered angle and increased distance, but nevertheless it pops me in the jaw…FUCK>>>.I now pivot back to my right, hoping to slam a powerful right straight into your solar plexus, coming in under your left, and a followup left hook at your jaw……4 yt
22:21 Kay_McMann: I land the kick and hook not quite as I'd like but in asking questions as my team shout "yes Kay, volume". You hit back trying to box me. I try and guard well for the plexus shot. Tucking the arms but get tagged by the book as it knocks me to one side. I stagger back a step as you knock spit from my mouth. I try and stop any backwards momentum.with a jumping right knee, trying to shoot my knee up into your belt line following up with right crossing elbow hoping to tag the cheek and stay aggressive... 23:39 Karina_Fighter: My left hook hits payday as it slams into your jaw, but you have spunk and want to stand your ground with me, wanting to go toe to toe…..you come at me with a flying knee, I try to step back, but it gauges me in the waist line, I tighten my abs to absorb the shock, grunting arggggggg…….it hurts even after tightening the abs…..but as you cross your elbow in at my cheek, I dip at the knees, letting the elbow swing over the top of my head, swishing through my blond hair, and as I come back up, I try to unload a boxing combo on you, first a left hook at your ribs, hoping to go under your elbow strike, then a right uppercut towards your chin, and finally I attempt a left overhand punch at your temple……wanting to send you back towards the cage wall if I can…….you are turning out to be a tougher and more skilled opponent than I had thought, and I want to go toe to toe now, trading punches……5 YT
23:42 Kay_McMann: I get my knee off and it looks nice for the cameras as you brace for it. I land and put my elbow out for the hook, you weave and I find air. You move with grace as your hair swishes and you counter with a hard hook to my ribs. It crunches my ribcage and I get put onto tiptoes as I wince ooofff. It sets you up for the uppercut which staggers me backwards, thudding under my chin as I get boxed across the cage. I cover up as your overhand smashes my guard. It does back me up near the cage wall and as I sense this I try and change levels. Sending out a jab towards the jaw then dipping my knees and going for a double leg shot. Looking to thrust my body towards you. 6 Yt
23:58 Karina_Fighter: My hook smashes nicely into your ribs, and my uppercut sends you back towards the cage wall........but my overhand lands on leather, making a smacking sound, I'm intent on backing you back....when suddenly your left shoots out.....going through my guard and popping me in the cheek......snapping my head back.....which gives you the opportunity to dip and go for a double leg take down......but as I fall backwards, I try to wrap my legs around your waist, going for a body scissors, and also try to wrap my right arm around the back of your neck, hopping to pull your head under my armpit in a Guillotine choke, as we fall backwards.....yt
00:03 Kay_McMann: We stay in the pocket as I go for the double. I manage to wrap my hands around your thighs and thrust. You play a good defensive game achieving guard with your legs around my waist. You get into a semi guillotine position grabbing my head. Not sunk in yet but I've got some work to do as I try and stay upright on top, trying for wrist control and hoping to remove your arm with the use of 2 of mine. If successful I try to posture up for a cross to the chin on the ground..7 yt
00:08 Karina_Fighter: I know I'm in trouble in this position, and you are semi upright as I hold you around the waist with my legs....you begin to work to free your head from my grasp, so I quickly release the leg scissors, and bring my feet around, placing them on the front of your hips, and then give one mighty push......hoping to send you flying backwards off from me and into the cage wall......hoping to roll to my right to get to my feet ....yt

00:12 Kay_McMann: I work out of the guillotine smartly. Both of us seemingly more comfortable strikers we are scrappy on the feet. My team give me a "nice work!" As I posture up. You put your feet on my hips and shove me away. I try to throw your legs to one side but your thighs beat my biceps as you push me into the cage wall and roll up. I try to sidestep off the cage and go for a push kick with my front left leg towards the thigh of your front leg before trying to extend my arm and twist looking to land a spinning back fist across the cheek/ chin 8 yt
00:23 Karina_Fighter: The cage wall makes a thunderous rattle as your back slaps into it….the crowd watching intensely as the challenger now seems to be controlling the fight…..I roll to my right and as I stand you spring forward like a cat…..launching a left push kick at my thigh….you don’t give me a second after I stand before launching this fast kick, and all I can do is lower my guard fast, and slap it away…..but with a lowered guard your brutal spinning back fist slams across my cheek…..spit flies out of my mouth as my face twists around….again it’s time to go toe to toe, and I shoot out a right uppercut at your liver as my guard comes back, followed by a left hook at the side of your right eye, and then take a few steps back to try to regroup after eating that back fist…..my cheek red from the pop….8 yt
10:07 Kay_McMann: After hitting the cage wall I come back use 2 levels. The kick setting up the backfist which gives me space to get away from the cage wall. I advance as you also step close into Boxing range. You go for my liver as I bend and cover trying to stay right. I keep a tight guard as the hook hits my glove and you back off. I let you get distance and try to step into a right high kick for the chin, trying to land and lunge so I can swing a left uppercut up and under the jaw trying to walk forward. 9 yt
10:17 Karina_Fighter: The smaller gal is holding her own against me, my right uppercut not doing much and my hook slaps your glove, defending yourself well. As I pull back, you send a right high kick out for my chin, but I slip my head right, letting your foot just brush past the side of my cheek…..but that movement sends me in the direction of your left uppercut that slams into my jaw……knocking my head to the left……the sound of your glove striking my face reverberates through the stadium, and I shake my head to clear my vision……mtc
10:17 Karina_Fighter: The fight is now moving fast, and I see you are protecting the sides of your face with your gloves, as I have been throwing a lot of hooks at you. I want you to keep those gloves on the side of your face, so I bounce from side to side, erratically, “WHOOOPPPP….WHOOPPPP!” and throw out a left hook at your jaw, expecting to strike your glove. But then I change tactics, moving outside of my boxing comfort zone, I bring into play the longer reach advantage that I have on you…….. and bounce a step back, and suddenly raise my long powerful right leg up, bringing the knee to my chest, I launch a high teep kick, intending to bring my foot up through the middle of your guard, trying to plant the ball of my foot under your chin. 9 YT
10:35 Kay_McMann: My team are shouting to keep up the pressure as my uppercut connects nicely. As you try to get back into it going left and right you throw the hook which brings my guard tight to my head. Thup against my glove. As you bounce back I slightly shuffle forward in kicking range. Raising your leg you lift the knee. I keep one glove at my face and lower the right to catch the teep but it's a head height one. Your foot smashing my chin and shoving me back head first. I recoil and try to get out of this kick range, going for a stepping right knee towards the belt line wanting to land close for a left, right hook at the jaw so I can stay close 10 yt
10:43 Karina_Fighter: I see your head snap back from my kick, and you do what I would predict a shorter fighter to do, and that is get in close…..you launch a knee and I tighten my abs again to take the blow, I won’t make the mistake of lowering my guard again…..keeping my guard high, I take the hook combo on my gloves, and then knowing the round is nearly over, I let loose with a burst of pure energy, a right knee strike at your abs, just below your belly button, dropping my left, I try for an uppercut at your chin, and then a right cross at your right eye……10 yt
12:50 Kay_McMann: As I come back in to get closer range you shell up readying yourself for the hooks. They slap against your guard. I want to keep boxing but as I prepare a punch your knee slams up against my body and bends me in slightly THUD. It puts me in the defensive as I try and guard up but the uppercut, straight combo pushes my.jaw up then my.head back as my head turns away with spittle flying and a little sweat from my hair. I retreat back one step and try to throw a right body kick towards your ribs to end the round hoping to keep you from landing more of the boxing shots just now. 10 yt
13:01 Karina_Fighter: I feel my knee strike into your abs and then my head shots find a home…..you begin to disengage from the up close and personal toe to toe action, sending out a right body kick that I side step back from, but as I move forward, suddenly the bell sounds and I lower my gloves……I’m now breathing hard and begin to make my way back to my side of the ring……yt
12:35 Kay_McMann: You step back from the kick and we end up at range. You start to move in but as you do the bell sounds and the ref steps between with a firm hand. I let my hands drop and lift my body upright. I now and then.towards my team who are heading in with a stool. I walk back with a fist up as I turn and sit. Leaning against the cage I get my water and get towelled down by my coaches. "Great work keep closing that distance use those exchanges and change levels just keep it nice and simple, make sure you are throwing 1st and 3rd. I now and take a few deep breaths... Yt
12:39 Karina_Fighter: I get a wink from my trainer as I arrive at my side of the ring…..he and I both know something that your corner does not know,……and he tells me I’m doing fine…..”she won’t survive another teep kick into her chin….and her right eye probably will probably start some swelling soon from that right cross you delivered…..”…”just keep up those kind of shots in round 2”…….He puts a cold compress on my cheek where I took a back fist, and wipes me down with a towel. I now stand up, I take another sip of water, and have my mouth guard popped back in, ready for the next 5 minute round…..yt
14:48 Kay_McMann: My team stand me up and run out my shoulders, my gloves on my head coaches shoulders. "Ok two big breaths here. No need to take chances just yet stay composed, you know what is working. Keep giving me the kicks to set up the boxing and we're on our way". I not as I hear our teams.commanded to leave. They exit the cage as I brush down my skirt and bounce up high on my toes. Arms up tight ready to recommence. "ROUND 2. Fight!" *ding* and out I come. A quick paced dart to the middle so I can settle in again, light, bouncing, my heels not touching the mat. I try to land first with an outside right leg kick with my shin aimed at the left thigh muscle. A quick jab, cross towards the nose after it trying to keep the pace fairly fast. 1 yt
15:27 Karina_Fighter: The bell sounds, and I come out in an orthodox stance, bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet…..I feel refreshed and ready for more fighting. I’m moving back and forth and side to side, trying to stay at a diagonal to be less of a target. Your right comes out and I bounce to the right to try to minimize the impact as it connects with my thigh…AGGGG I feel your shin pop into my thigh……and then you send out a jab at my nose….I slip my head to the right to avoid the jab, and then send out a right straight towards your solar plexus, trying go under your left which is no longer in place to protect your body, and then take a bounce backwards, plant my feet, and launch a right push kick at the centre of your body, towards your SP…..2 YT
15:36 Kay_McMann: We come out fighting and you look a little refreshed after the break. I slap a nice leg kick in and land close enough to box. You pivot and weave well though as you stay alert. Countering with the punch to my plexus. I recoil a little and start to shuffle back. Your teep doing it for me as you shove me back across the cage a few steps. I circle around and stay at kicking range. I go for a double with my right leg, looking to again strike that outside thigh but bouncing it back up trying to thud a heavy shin against your ribcage to work the body and get my flow. 2 yt
15:55 Karina_Fighter: I feel my right drill into your SP, and you pull back, and my push kick moves you further back. Your clearly now staying at kick range, wanting to take advantage of your kick boxing skills, your right leg comes out at my thigh again, and I drop my left to push your leg back, but it comes up again, and tags me in the ribs as I try to rush forward…..argggg…….i breath heavily to work through the shock and pain, but move in closer very quickly,……I send out a left hook, trying to slam my glove into your right glove to knock your guard away for a second, so that I can try to drive a right straight at your nose, and then followup with a left uppercut aimed at your chin 3…yt
16:24 Kay_McMann: I land the body kick and I want to get a little closer. You meet me and slam a hook into my guard. It doesn't quite knock it out of the way but it loosens it for the cross. I manage to turn my head a little and bend my neck. It means your cross tags my forehead. The follow up uppercut though meets my jaw as result of the tucked chin and it knocks my head up to facing you again, it wobbles my legs as it's a well aimed and timed heavy punch. I wince "ufff" and my head rattles. My team still trying to keep me on game "kick and level Kay!". I back away a step after taking the punch and try to fire out a right body kick towards the belt line with the intention of landing in a squat position to try and drive a double leg takedown either to the floor or trying to drive my hips so I push you back towards the cage wall. 3 yt
16:36 Karina_Fighter: For the moment, I’m staying in close….I won the title by letting my fists do the work, and I figure the same strategy will work here, but I’m versatile. My right tags your forehead and my left uppercut really rocks your head…..I hear your team shouting kick…..and you take a step back to send out a right body kick to my belt line, I see it coming and tighten my abs…….argggggg…..it sends me back a step….but then as you lower yourself to go for a double leg take down, I move fast, pulling my right leg back out of reach, as you move your hands out towards my legs, and I try to drive my right knee into the centre of your face, and then pull back my left glove to try to swing a low left hook down onto your temple……4 yt
16:52 Kay_McMann: The shot rocks me enough that you want to keep boxing with me. I try and go longer range and do as my coaches ask. Scoring a nice kick to your body. I crouch and drive, pushing my hips towards you as you pull the leg back. It forces me to try the single leg.
16:55 Kay_McMann: As I go to wrap around your front leg I see the knee coming and have to react. I manage to put my glove up but the knee still drives the back of my glove into my face, shoving my face up and leaving a small red mark on my cheek. Importantly it makes room for the hook which hammers my temple. As in still crouched it bends my neck violently and rocks my head. I get knocked backwards to the mat and plant with my arms wide. I however do still have my faculties and instinctively try to guard back up and raise my legs to try and avoid you diving into full mount. My team stay loud "guard up Kay! Keep your head!" 4 yt
17:02 Karina_Fighter: I feel my left connect well with your temple, driving you backwards onto the canvass….you are turtled up and defensive……on the ground….I can’t dive onto you for a full mount without taking a punch or kick, so I go around to your right side, attempting to grab your right wrist with both of my hands…….while still standing and squatting…5…yt
17:21 Kay_McMann: I turtle up and you don't jump in with me ready for an up kick. You go to the side and go for wrist control. With you squatting I try and fight for the wrists too. I try and spin on my backside looking to snake a leg under you, hopefully trapping your right leg in a figure four motion. 5 yt
17:24 Karina_Fighter: I take hold of your wrist, and then as you begin to spin, I make a commitment to ground fighting, I drop to my bum, and try to throw my legs out over your chest, attempting to pull your right arm between my legs, one of my feet I use to drive back your left arm, and try to place one leg on each side of your right arm, attempting to trap you in an arm bar, trying to bend your elbow into my leg…….yt
17:43 Kay_McMann: You drop down and throw your legs out. I try to fight it with my free left but find myself on my back. As I try and clasp my hands your foot pushes and break my grip. You wrap your legs around my arm. As you try and bend I attempt to turn, push and drive, hoping to roll up and stack upu, trying to use my left hand under your calf for leverage. My face wincing as o start to sweat more, my hair becoming more frizzy and loose. 6 yt
18:09 Karina_Fighter: "Gotcha!"........I begin to bend your elbow more into my leg, and increase the pressure on your arm by twisting your wrist which i now control with my hands.........."SUBMIT!".......I hiss........and hope the ungodly pain i'm now putting on your arm will make you submit before your elbow is dislocated....i keep the pressure on, inspite of your movements...6 yt

A little beaten up from the boxing exchanges I shake your hand and give you a moment to soak up the atmosphere post fight. My team head to me ready with a towel and water to try and clean me up before the official.decision. Yt
