Colleagues Settling Differences in the BOXING Ring: Helen vs Patti
00:04 Patti: Helen and I have been co-workers for the past two years, two years of constant argument and aggrevation. It's fair to say we don't like each other, to put it mildly. Yesterday the boss told us to stop, or she would terminate both of us. uggg! i hate that boss as well, but I need my job, so Helen and I came up with a solution: we will meet in a local gym and box it out. Winner will take the dominate role in the office. mtc
00:09 Patti: On the day of the boxing match, I arrive at the gym first, and quickly change into some blue spandex sports shorts, a matching blue sports bra, some white boxing boots. Before putting on my red 8 oz Reyes gloves, I pop a gum shield in my mouth, quickly wrap my fists with gauze, and the insert the gloves, closing over the velcro flaps. With my hair already bound in a ponytail, I go out to the main gym to warm up on the heavey bag. % ft 6 in, 130 lbs, 30 yo, and 34C.......yt
00:14 Patti: (*5 ft 6 in)
00:28 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: I've been an 20 year employee here. 20 YEARS!!! But the last two years, the moment she was hired, Patti has been a complete disaster to work with from DAY ONE! But this is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Getting called into the boss' office isn't fun. To get called in because of another 'disagreement' with the 'Tejana Mauler', a nickname that was given to her and I would find out about after the meeting, was just ENOUGH!!
00:34 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: We seen each other working out at our town's local gym. She brings up the fact that she's seen me sparring there, and tells me she's a boxer, too. "So, do you agree?" are the last words of the conversation from her. The Proposal: a nonstop endurance 'test', a boxing match with no rounds, just her and I, gauntlet-style, box till one can't continue, completely knocked out. There's no way I am saying no to this. I've been boxing since I was 16. I am all OVER this.
00:45 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: It's fight night, just pulling up to the gym and sure enough her car is already here. I grab my bear bag and head inside locking the back door as instructed when I arrive. Nothing lit but the ring. I hear some rustling in the place and figured it was her. I de-robe and begin to piece my attire together, underarmour spandex green patterned shorts on and a black sports both with grey trim, black boxing boots, and my red 8oz boxing gloves. I slip on the spandex shorts and bra and loosen my neck, I place on my needed sports socks and thenthe boots that fit almost as well as the rest of the 'outfit'. I sit and wrap my hands before slipping on the gloves that fit me so perfectly. My short, red hair left to be free is already dripping with sweat from my prefight workout. And then.... it's time. my 5 foot 9 inch, 140 pound, 45 yo 34C athletic figure make my similar age friends all jealous. But when I walk out and approach the ring, I see you working a heavy bag.
00:48 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: "Hey, you gonna waste your time over there, or are you gonna get in the ring?" And I smile wide stepping through the ropes and dance on the balls of my feet, moving, shooting out a fast flurry before rooling my neck and going to the red corner of the ring. I smack my gloves together, and place my mouthguard in, as I look for you to do the same; get in the ring
00:48 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
00:56 Patti: I’m pounding on the heavy bag in the corner when suddenly I notice Helen is coming towards the ring, saying something with her big mouth. I look over at her and she appears to be already geared up, and I have to admit she is an impressive site. I stop punching the bag immediately to look her over, a fit and impressive body for a 45 year old, or actually for any age for that matter! She must be some kind of fitness junky. She is a good three inches taller than me, so she will have a small reach advantage, and she is a good 10 lbs heavier, weight that seems to be muscle rather than fat. I’m already assessing how I will approach her in the ring, she does look wicked. mtc
00:56 Patti: I slowly move towards the ring, taking my time to slide between the middle and top rope, not going to be bossed around by this red head. I move to my corner, pound my gloves together, and begin to bounce lightly on the balls of my feet, rolling my shoulders up and down, ponytail of dark Latina hair bouncing up and down. “OK Helen, it’s DING DING DING TIME! – you ready? yt
01:05 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: And as usual, the company drama queen has to spew something that is, in this case, inept and hilarious. But I don't even respond other than stepping to center flat-footed, never taking my eyes off the one standing across the ring from me, biting down on my mouthguard, and then stopping at center ring to present gloves to tap. I'll give her this, she looks well 'constructed' for a fighter, and she showed. I stick out both gloves to tap
01:05 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
01:11 Patti: You sauntered casually out to the ring centre, flat footed. So I come out walking too, and this annoying red head wants to tap gloves, so what the fuck? I extend mine. I give you a stare with my dark Latina eyes, and then I form an orthodox stance, left glove leading, left foot leading, elbows tucked in. I begin bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet, and bobbing erratically from side to side, and try to stay at a diagonal to you, NOT going to be an easy target. I watch you, it’s always intimidating, squaring off with a taller and heavier opponent who is moving like she has vast boxing experience----well that’s something that’s going to get tested right here and now. After listening to your voice in the office, and having to look at that short crop of red hair for the past two years, and all those snarky comments, I’ve got some scores to settle. So I step off to my right to circle. yt
01:25 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: You tap my gloves with the same 'chip-on-your-shoulder' attitude you carry into work every day. It's clear you have vengeance in your heart. For what, I have no idea. I've tried, goodness I've tried, to understand. Tonight, I don't care. Tonight, your main course is fine weathered leather with a side of humble pie. Tonight, you go horizontal. I match your stance style, but mine is modified with the left up a bit closer to my head and upper body, and the right adjusting as my head, shoulders, and body shift and read you sometimes bringing the gloves in front, still moving. I shift my weight on my feet, dancing, sliding, juking, and circling with you.
01:25 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
01:33 Patti: We are now circling each other, a dangerous little dance. Being a counter puncher, I want you to take the first move, but we dance around each other. Being Latina, I have little patience for not mixing it up. I decide to suddenly turn into you, sending my left foot out quickly. Kind of a quick lunging movement. A quick jab at your forehead, wanting to make you raise your guard higher, then my main attack, a quick moving right hook towards your lower floating ribs, and follow this up with a left uppercut that I try to slam just under your belly button. Let’s see how she goes toe to toe. yt
01:48 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: Oh you're chomping at the bit, antsy-in-the-panties, never a good thing for a fighter that doesn't know their opponent. I see it coming. Your face and eyes don't lie. My waterpool blue eyes keenly focused on you getting the feel for your body movements already. And as expected, you couldn't wait, you had to attempt to draw first blood. You had to try to establish alpha status at the start. And what do you throw to do that? A standard 'pad-and-mitt drill' combination? Are you kidding me? My muscle memory kicks in and i go to work! Using my body and head movement like the drill and my gloves as the mitts, the left jab releases toward my forehead. The slight reach and height advantage comes into use immediately as I shift my head and shoulders slightly right, slipping that jab. The right and left come for my left side and body, giving my gloved defenses the chance to use those aforementioned mitt 'responses'. I look to parry the left with my right glove, chopping it down.
01:53 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: Then slip my body and head, using my feet and hips, to slightly slide left and wanting to do the same to the uppercut. I go and chop at it with my left glove using my forearms and gloves as the 'mitts'. The power is noticed, but here we are. Your gloves chopped down and your head right in front. I do the next part of the mitt drill and quickly shift my torso left and right and in one fluid motion look to power a quick and heavy left and right hook at the curve of your jawline...FAFF...FAFF... and answer your question of how I handle going toe to toe
01:54 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
02:07 Patti: A tad late, I realise you are VERY fast and skilled, rather than raising your gloves up to block my fast moving jab, you slip your head to the right, so my jab goes into empty air space on the left side of your head. This move by you is amazing, as it leaves your gloves in place, so that when I continue with my pre-programmed drill you can block my right hook with your left glove, and parry my left uppercut out to the side with a chopping motion of your right glove. Before anything else happens, I know I’ve made a huge mistake, because your gloves are INSIDE my guard, with each of my gloves out to the side. FUCK!!!!With a very fluid motion your left hook sweeps in, pounding my jaw, I have enough sense to twist my face to the left to roll with the punch to mitigate its power, it still hurts a lot!. The right flys up, so I step into you, pressing my head towards your right shoulder, so that your right forearm swings into my neck, your glove behind my head.
02:07 Patti: Your moves, my moves, all are done fast, split second choices. With my gloves still down, I counter by pulling back my left and try to drive a shovel hook towards your liver region, and then to step back to send a right straight towards your solar plexus, and then step further back to try to recover some from the hook.
02:10 Patti: yt
17:38 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: That left of mine smokes your jawline and I am sure it hurt. But I am actually impressed that you didn't already drop as it felt so good connecting. You make a smart defensive choice and drop your head into me and the right slides by and skates over and behind your head. You counter with the left, but you 'pull back your left' telegraphing it immediately. I don't give you the moment you need to unload it. I twist my body left and drop my right arm and use it to stop the attempted assault on my liver. The right is easier to defend then as all I need to do is close shop inside by pumping my left and right arms together and your solar plexus adventure ends before it starts. You hammer two forearms and I am AGAIN inside your fight zone. I use my fast hands and come over both body shots with a snap left uppercut looking to pop that chin up for the follow power left and right hook wanting to crash leather into your hopefully wide open chin and jaw.
17:38 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
17:52 Patti: My nasty little surprise for your liver is stopped cold, as you figure out what I’m up too, and stop my attack cold. As I take a half step back, you also put a stop to my solar plexus “adventure” by pressing your forearms together that block my right from connecting with the target. I see it in your blue eyes that you are pleased with how the fight is going, even barely a few seconds into it, just a fleeting glimpse as I know I’m in your target range, and again I’m left with my guard down. But there are ways of avoiding getting hit without using gloves and forearms to block. Your left shoots up fast, and I’m forced to lean back deeply to avoid what could have been a fight ending uppercut to the chin. Your glove swooshes an inch in front of my nose, and rather than come back forward, I push back on my lead left foot to take a bounce back, and so I narrowly escape the right hook, which also strikes into the empty air space. mtc
17:52 Patti: My retreat leaves me with no counter punch option, so I slide off to my right to reset my guard, now intending to fight a little more cautiously, because you are one deadly boxer. yt
18:12 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: Coming up empty with my counter is unfortunate but this is boxing. It's not like you're just going to stand there and get hit. But I was sure I'd at least catch you with one. It's a testament to your skill. I am not in the ring with a rook, for sure. You don't counter (hmmm, must not see any good options, another excellent experienced fighter choice). As you slide out, I move with you and look to keep the pressure cooker coming. As you reset, I quickly slide at you and snap a straight right at your chin, not worried if it connects. But I want you moving and stay in a reactionary state, and not give you time to think. I then immediately move right and step at you and feign a left jab hoping you commit to keeping the gloves up. My follow is a sweeping left hook coming for your trunkline then snap it back and sweep it up and hopefully over your gloves and crash it into your right jawline. pressure pressure pressure
18:12 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
18:27 Patti: There is a lot of psychology to boxing, and it would be fair to say that your opening moves have rattled me, making me more reluctant to attack again. I’m now going to try to move into my counter punching mode, that I feel more comfortable and confident with. It does not take long, a straight right shoots out at my chin, and goes just to the right of my left glove, and plasters my mouth and chin, rocking my head back. I bite down on my mouth guard to keep it from flipping out of my mouth. I’m a little surprised at the speed at which you did this, and you immediately circle to my left, a jab starts to come, and this time I tighten my guard to block it, keeping it high, and instead a left hook pounds into my abs just at my waist line, I tighten my abs, to take some of the impact and shock of the blow, and my gloves drop a bit after getting rattled in the lower gut, but I see your left sweeping up again, and this time I dip at my knees and weave under the hook.
18:28 Patti: As I come back up, I try to pound a right hook at your lower floating ribs, hoping to go under your left before you get it back in place, and then as I come fully back, a left hook towards your jaw line, trying to curve it around your right glove. Feeling my lips bruising, and now gasping for air from your strikes, I again try to retreat a couple of step backs, realizing hide and seek might not work with you. yt
19:37 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: I AGAIN catch you flatfooted as my right does its job and bulldozes by your gloves and into your face and chin. The chin 'music' is as overwhelming to see as it could have been. When your head goes back, my body reacts with chills and tingles. Such a feeling cannot be explained in any other sport, so hot. And then I feel your body take the waistline left and I feel your flexed ab absorb the impact. Your gloves retract and I get the sense your body is softening up. But the followup misses and instantly I feel my left side smacked hard...mmffph...my body envelops the shot as I never saw it coming, causing me to falter and swallow it leaving a lingering sting and a read welt for my troubles. But you again show your 'hand' as you load up, 'coming fully back' with the left trying to come around my right. You telegraphing the blow gives me the moments I need (as in boxing, 'moments are minutes') to adjust. You never get the shot around my right. I stretch my right out slightly (mtc)
19:48 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: ... and your left pops my extended forearm. hearing and seeing your issues breathing as you gasp, you 'go on retreat'. But pressure has been very successful and I have not expelled half the energy you have as I feel my adrenaline is pumping plenty of fuel for me. I do just that, pressure you as you step back again... not giving you the room you want. I move left then right in a fluid manner and in that fgluid motion I drop my right shoulder as if coming for your body but not taking my eyes off yours hoping you thing I am coming up with the shovel hook. But instead I step into the blow to add some oomph to the shot and bring it hard and fast looking to cave in your core. I take no caution as I combine the shovel hook with a flurry in hopes you swallow the body shot. if not, I am in real trouble. If you do, then the left right left jackhammer straight lefts and rights should make your adventure in the ring a very cloudied mess in your head.
19:48 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
19:58 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
20:37 Patti: My right hook pounded nicely into your side ribs, and I can see by your expression, it took you by surprise, and was a big confidence builder for me, first punch I landed of the match. My left is sent out hard and fast, but your right forearm is out fast, and intercepts my hook, stopping it dead in the air. I step back, but you are not going to disengage from me, moving erratically from side to side. It’s hard to keep up with your movements, then I see your right shoulder dip, you are just so fucking good! I take the bait and lower my left glove to block the shovel hook. My left side is now open, my glove down. Suddenly left/right/left straight punches start flying. The left smacks me in the cheek, jerking my neck and head backwards, the right lands a split second later, pounding me in the nose, a small dribble of blood now coming out and down my chin.
20:38 Patti: I’m getting hammered, but get my right back up to use my forearm to parry the next left straight, and using just muscle memory, try to send back a right overhand towards your temple, desperate to stop the beating and return some of it. I don’t pull back, as I’m a bit stunned from the onslaught of punches. yt
21:00 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: It is obvious you are struggling to follow me and I am high on adrenaline as each leather bomb hits home. When your head repeatedly gets swatted back, and then you parry the last of the blows, you AGAIN seem desperate with your 'counter'. THIS TIME, you come with a big over hand right swinging for the fences to knock me senseless to the left temple. How you think I don't see what equates to a very desperate blow. I move a step closer to you when you bring the right... the parting air is greatly disturbed with a swoosh, but you DON'T back away and my counter doesn't have very far to go at all. Your right extends and I come seeking out the base of your jaw and chin at your neck with a colossal right uppercut wanting to just shatter your comprehension skills while then stepping at you and repeating the jack hammer flurry. ... left right left.... with the sole purpose of flattening your face and drive you to the corner that is again so close.
21:00 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
21:07 Patti: I’m eating a lot of punches, and not landing many, so even someone as thick as me knows that my red haired nemesis is fucking me up badly. Head and face, does not matter to you, you are an equal opportunity pugilist. I see that you see it too, that arrogant shine in those cold blue eyes. Still time to turn this around I tell myself. All these thoughts racing through my brain in a split second. My right overhand strikes only air as you come in closer. Then with my right extended, and my left available, but motionless, your right uppercut swings up into my jaw, a burst of spit flys out of my mouth, my head rocks back and a stumble back a step. The jackhammers start, but the first one is too premature, and barely connects with my chin, because the uppercut rocked my head back. Your so fast you are not waiting for the target. The second and third straight punch into each cheek, again rocking my head back, and forcing me into that fucking corner.
21:08 Patti: I try step out of the corner, daized and still wanting to fight, swing a haymaker of a right hook towards your jaw. yt
21:25 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: My arm shivers each blow, I can sense you withering and losing steam, but when the last exchange occurs, I KNOW you are. You seem increasingly desperate to make contact and ironically get further and further away from that. In my view, you seem to be a boxer who's frustrated. Your early success and your recent body shot don't accumulate to much other than another visit to the corner. I plan on giving you a visit to the canvas; A permanent one. You find yourself back in the corner and your eyes show it, dazed and yet still wanting to engage. Your attempt to escape the corner is meet with my dissension as you throw another desperate, fully-loaded OVER-telegraphed right hook comes barrelling in toward my left jawline. I drop below and let it fly overhead fast, furious.... and harmless
21:25 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: (mtc)
21:29 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: I plant my right foot and drive my body into a monster straight right wishing your belly much harm using your navel as the bullseye, wanting to just crush your breathing capabilites and twist my body hard right launching a left uppercut starting from near canvas level and coming up with malice in its purpose... to end your night and wreck your chin and jaw in the process..... yyyuuuuusssshh
21:29 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
21:40 Patti: My hay maker of a right hook goes over your head, swiping the empty air as you ably dip under it, and then it all unravels fast and furious. My feeble hook swinging in the air, leaves me unbalanced, and as you drop down, you send out a massive right straight into my belly button. In my stunned state, I don’t have the presence of mind to tighten those abs, so the blow forces me to expel air from my lungs. The blow forces me to double over, and as I lean forward, you are already coming up with a left uppercut that is traveling at ward speed. The gloved fist punches into my chin, rocking my head back and up, and my body falls backwards, my back pressing into the corner turnbuckle. It was the perfect combination. I try to lock my knees, but to stay up, but they just turn to rubber. My brain bounces in my scull, which is what causes a concussion, then my eyes roll to the back of my head, and my back slides down the turnbuckle, where I land on my butt, slumped and knocked out.
21:40 Patti: yt
21:43 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: The absolute rush seeing you take the massive blows creates a rush in me that cannot be contained. I scream "YES!!!!!" as I see the perfect result of the combination. The visual of your sliding down the turnbuckle unleashes a wave of satisfaction that I jump up and down and you YES YES YES!!!! I give you the respect you deserve and I somehow try to compose myself to do so.......

21:44 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
21:45 Patti: I begin to pop my eyes open, as you begin to count, I hear the count of five, and I realise that I'm propped up against the corner, my legs spread eagle.....I'm in in daize still, in wonder land.....it comes back quickly, I was in a boxing match...what the fuck races through my mind......yt

21:50 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
21:57 Patti: I'm feeling horrified that I let you beat me. Well, I guess "let" is the wrong word. You seem to be in a totally different boxing league from me, having landed maybe 12 times more punches than me, so a humiliating beatdown. Its hard to suppress a tear. I got to get up, and use the middle rope to partially pull myself up, but then my head swirls, or maybe the ring is swirling, and I just collapse back down on my ass. yt
22:07 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: ...10!!!
22:12 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: I raise my gloves in triumph as I see you plop back down as you're counted out. the sweat from my body pours out with my elation seeing my defeated opponent unable to answer the count. The thoughts that work will never be the same don't even enter my brain as my only reaction is, I DID IT! I knocked her out. The mouth has FINALLY been shut. But, has the demon been exorcised? Time will only tell.
22:12 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: (mtc)
22:13 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: Then suddenly, I feel it. The release of adrenaline gone. I take a deep breath. and I sit next to you...I let out a huge breath.
22:15 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: And I get the courage as I sit plopped next to you....."Hey.....you ok?" as suddenly my heart has melted a bit wondering if you'll respond by trying to hit me, spit at me, ignore me, I am not sure what to expect. But I opened that door. What happens from here is in your parking spot
22:15 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: yt
22:17 Patti: I give a weak smile. "I'll cry if you're nice to me Helen. and thanks for asking, I'm fine, a bit beatup, but yeah, I'm fine. I'll be nicer to you in work, until I want a rematch, than you'll get my loud mouth back" and I give you a smirk. yt
22:26 Helen_The_Redhead_Redmann: Not surprised by the somewhat confused response, it's probably the result of the experience we just had, I stay there sitting with you, silent. just making sure you aren't alone while you gather your wits. We can talk another day.
