Hi there, I can clear this up.

When you reach out to another character through messages, you will respond as the character you are logged in as. You can check which character you are logged into by clicking on your user icon in the upper right. The one with a check mark by their name is the one you are responding to when writing a direct message or posting in the forums. In messages, there is an extra indicator in the box to help with this, as there is light grey text stating you are sending a message to (the character) from (your character).

I hope that helps clear up any confusion. It's a good idea to double-check which character you are logged in as before posting on the forum or making comments on stories.

I'm a bit confused about the direct message system and how it works with the different charcaters. So currently I've my "Primary Character" and I created a second, a bit more elaborated character. Now I'm wondering - if I contact another member, what do they see? From which character do they get the message? At first I thought, that this is probably the character I've set to active when writing the message, but now I've my doubts.
Because I noticed that if I open a conversation in my inbox the portrait next to my messages changes to whatever character I've selected at the moment. So, how does this work? What does "the other side" see?

If you are the one starting a brand new conversation/DM thread, then that message will come from whatever character you currently have "active". So if you message somebody new, intending to be from your secondary, but are still logged in as your primary, the message will come from the primary.

When it comes to already open DMs, it no longer matters which account you are logged into. It will automatically respond from the character in that DM thread. Regardless of which character you are logged in as. The same holds true if you are responding to a DM from someone to a character. If they DM your secondary character, when you respond, even if logged in as your primary, the response will be from the secondary character that they messaged.

The only time it matters is when you are starting a DM with someone you've never spoken to before. That message will be from the character you are currently logged in as.

As support mentioned, check the grey text before you type, to make sure you are sending from the character you wish.

Thank you for the explanation. I think the thing that irritated me the most is that the character portraits in my conversations change when I change character. It would probably be more intuitive if the portrait would remain the one of the character from which the message will be send.

They see whichever character you message them from.
