Adding stories to a book There are no restrictions to adding stories to a book. It has no effect on the story - or the book.
You can compare it to a playlist on youtube. Everyone can create them to save his favorite picks and create a collection.
It does not restrict the story.
Adding stories to a federation To add stories to a federation both conditions must be true:
The character attempting to add the story must be part of the story.
The character attempting to add the story must be part of the federation.
Random characters can't add your story to a federation, only to books, which is harmless.
So if your story is 'stolen' (marked as read-only as it got added to a federation) you might want to talk to your friends who were part of the story, and ask them not to submit it.
If you need to edit a story part of a federation, you can ask the federation to remove your story. Edit it, and resubmit it.
Hey I've been lurking on this particular thread because I found the subject matter interesting as someone who likes to create stories. I appreciate the thorough response. I guess my only suggestion for a possible future change would be to the first point in your conditions for adding stories to federation
"1. The character attempting to add the story must be part of the story."
Maybe make it so there is buy-in from both or all characters in the story instead of just one person, because I can definitely see the frustration when one person arbitrarily decides to add a story to a federation and then that makes it read only. Just a suggestion although I don't know how big or small the problem truly is.
As I said in my opinion post. I would be happy if the read-only nature was removed. It is probably the least work intensive method of solving the problem.
That book contains 472 stories, none of which seem related to either Kevin the Cobra or Narcos. Seems like someone used some script to automatically add a bunch of stories to the book, because some of the stories added are private and no "normal" user should be able to see them or find them.
You can spot them since the private stories all have 0 views, and when you click on their title, you can't read them.
This one's been causing problems for me for a bit, and I hope there can be some changes made to address it.
I do not like how my stories can be claimed without my permission by federations and other people books. When a federation claims a story, I am no longer able to edit it, and I often want to go in and clean things up. In order to do that, I need to track down, sometimes inactive members of a federation and ask them to remove the story. I would rather as an author, be asked permission first before a federation can add it to the achieve, or have the ability to continue to edit it after its been added to the federation, or have the freedom to remove it myself from the federation.
There is a similar problem with people adding books to stories. One of my stories Montague Jones was added to the book kevin the cobra vs narcos 3ED CHAPTER which seems to be a lot of nonsense. As the publishing writers of the story, I would like to be asked permission before a book can be added to a story like this. At least this doesn't stop the story from being edited, but its still an annoyance.
I agree with this. Federations/books should have to seek approval from all participants to publish a story in their forum. The idea that the creators can't even take the story back once it's been claimed is angering. They should have less powers than the creators, not more.
Thank you for the comment. Having to track down federation owners to get them to release stories is pretty aggravating. If stories could continue to be edited after being added to a Federation, it would solve all these problem, and probably be the least work intensive solution.
Well, my point was slightly different. I feel that federations/books should have to "ask" for permission to add the story in the first place & the story's creators should have the ability to revoke that should they feel inclined.
I do feel the story feature is both good in context of the community & an important feature for the site. I just feel it borders on stealing when a federation adds the story without consent & even revoking publishing the story won't remove it from the federation.
I agree with you. My proposed solution is the one that I perceive being the least amount of work needed to be done (changing functions) in the system by The_Tech. At the end of the day all I care about is being able to edit my stories without it getting locked down. I don't care if they are in a federation achieve, just as long as I can continue to fix the errors I see in them or in this case, adjust the formatting to be consistent with my newer and better looking styles.
