Reading profiles

For me, the bio is the most important part by far, but also whether the profile has been filled out with care (e.g., do the body stats match the pics, or do the photos show a mountain of muscle, but the size hexagon says the bicep circumference is 25cm? While it might seem trivial, it shows the amount of effort the person put in the profile and the amount of effort they are likely to put in the story.)

In the bio, the tone is as important to me as the content, if it reads like a job application, we likely won't have too much fun. If the person comes across as too in love with themselves, ditto.

Second most important factor are the pictures, because if I'm not into the look, I won't be into the RP. Here it's actually more important that the pics are not a turnoff than that I find them super hot. Tags come third, they matter, but not as much. I'll check if we share fighting styles, but if I like the bio and the pictures, I'm usually willing to step out of my comfort zone and try a fighting style I'm not too familiar with.

Posted stories come fourth - they are a good way to get a sense of someone's writing, but I usually don't read them. I trust that if someone can write a good and engaging bio, they can write good posts within an RP, and I prefer to be surprised rather than recognize a move/phrase/action that they've already used before. I'll usually only skim some of the stories if I'm unsure after considering the previous three factors.

Relationships and feds are almost completely irrelevant to me, except for the fact that if a profile has been here for more than a year and has no relationships and nothing posted, this is likely someone who isn't gonna commit long enough to get a story to a satisfying conclusion. The only context where feds matter is if they're in one that's a deal-breaker for me (e.g. something with an underage theme).

Before I even look at a profile, I (1.) Scan the keywords / tags. If we have no common ground or if it's a F/F only tag, this will dictate if I even proceed to the profile. (2.) The bio/introduction is where I get a feel for a charecters personality .. would we potentially have good chemistry. (3.) Visuals matter, they help me envision a roleplay. If I can't envision my opponent, I'll probably move on. (4.) I do factor in relationships and federation alliances. If we don't share friends or feds, probably a bad sign. (5.) Stories ... I don't judge people by their grasp of the language but I do look for turn offs .. supering, lack of attention to the opponents move, poor sell, etc ... If it looks like we might have a match, the stories are the final go/no go.

You and I don't share friends or feds, do we have a problem here, Mr. Davis? 😏

The key word being "probably", as opposed to "definitely". There are exceptions, which would make you ... "Exceptional" 😁

For me the tags and key words are more important than the looks. The looks don't matter if there is no common ground. And the introduction is more important too, because it gives a first impression of the writing abilities. Looks comes at 3 for me. And I put more weight on the stories than the relationships, again, for an impression of the writing skills.

What matters most to YOU when reading a profile? What do you give most "weight" to?

1. Looks/photos/art/avatar

2. Tags/key words

3. Introduction

4. Relationships/federations

5. Stories posted

Deifinitely in this order 1) Introduction 2) Stories posted 3) Looks/photos etc (being male, I'm very visual oriented) 4) Tags/keywords 5) Relationships
