Introduction

Past

As a child, Cosmo was getting into fights on the streets day in and day out, until he met Kureishi Mitsuyo, a mixed martial artist who offered to teach him martial arts. Cosmo proved to be a natural at it, so much so that when one of Kureishi's other students, a young businessman named Nishihonji Akira, came to recruit Kureishi to fight for his business, Kureishi instead referred him to Cosmo.

At the tender age of 14, Cosmo became the youngest person to ever debut in the Kengan matches, taking down a giant man 20cm taller and 30kg heavier into submission. He attended high school during most of his tenure as a fighter, and struggled to keep his brother and school friends from knowing about his rather unusual part-time job. At the age of 17, Nishihonji brought him to fight Anderson Arona, a public MMA fighter. Despite Arona's impressive win streak in Cage Fight, Cosmo ended up easily defeating him and causing Arona to retire from fighting altogether.

During the Kengan matches, there were three notable matches of his to be discussed. One was against a beefy, strongman that he befriended later who made his living through fighting in street fights and inside the hockey rink. It started off easy enough for Cosmo, until he got outpaced in striking when he secured a takedown via a Scissor Throw. This disadvantage compelled Imai to redirect his approach into luring the brawler into the range of ‘The Zone’, a timing technique which allowed him to win against the huge man by a Triangle Choke. The next match consisted of a particularly enthused ‘officer of the law’ who Imai challenged in his own field by sticking to striking. Wheel Kicks. Straight punches. He pulled off an arsenal of moves that whittled down his foe but could not quite make the cut in putting the officer down. Yet, the entire altered approach was a lead up to another Triangle Choke which the opponent BARELY avoided thanks to his one-of-a-kind reaction time despite Cosmo starting to get a feel for how the officer fought. Next came a Rear Naked Choke after his back scraped against the harsh ground, but still he could not finish the fight. The officer then revealed his true colors as a deranged individual whom was obsessed with his ideal of ‘justice’. While Imai is not evil, he was an obstacle that stood in the way of justice and had to be exterminated. This led to Imai discovering the effects of a lethal match on the human psyche, making him lose his composure and get pinned down where his ribs slowly ‘popped’ one by one. As a silver lining, he came upon the conclusion that his conviction lied in WINNING instead of enjoying the pain and getting hit like others did. After coming to this conclusion, he managed to finally choke out the menace using a Guillotine Choke.

The third match is his first recorded loss, where the accumulated damage he sustained from punching above his capabilities caught up with the young fighter. Imai traded grapples with the dark horse of the tournament, who used his bigger arsenal of combat moves to counteract Imai’s newly-developed foresight. After flexing his superior grappling, Imai bet everything on a misread tactic of the other man’s which lead to the King of Stranglers getting strangled himself.

Currently, after recovering from the entire debacle, Imai has been contracted out for freelance work to fill his time in the wonderous world of ChatFighters!
