The Black Ratel

That is one of the most feared names for those fighting in the battlefield. A legend amount the soldiers fighting in civil wars, insurrections or wars. A soldier and mercenary that might take on an entire base alone. So hard to kill, that some bounty hunters have even refuse the job because they don't believe it possible. Once, a guerrilla group was attacked by this person. Only a black figure was seen and even when trying to shoot at it, dropping explosive ordinance or making an entire building collapse on top of it.... It refuse to die. A ratel, also know as honey badger, is an animal that is small, but very hard to kill for predators. Hence, the nick name Black Ratel.

For those who don't know its identity, they will think of a warrior without equal, a muscular body that allows it to perform tasks even difficult for normal men.... The very definition of a large and imposing force of nature...

For those that know Yumiko..... They have need of reminding themselves who really is this girl and ask themselves how the hell is she not death yet.... As for why she is on the battlefield in the first place...?

It is a quite sad story.... One not that uncommon in this world unfortunately.

Yamiko.... Was actually a name given to her by Natsuki Kensen, little sister of the late Kenji Kensen. As for where Natsuki found her? It was in the battlefield at the age of 14.

Yamiko was a child soldier... Orphan, no mother nor father, sold and then trained on how to make explosives at 6. She showed an incredible talent on weapons at an early age and was trained for guerrilla warfare in a terrorist cell at the age of 11. By 14, there was a reward for her head set by multiple governments.... But nobody knew that she was only a child. That changed when Natsuki Kensen arrived at the country where she was and proceed to completely destroy the terrorist cell. At her mercy, the child soldier expected a quick end from that woman with fierce, but gentle eyes, but instead she was spared and taken by Natsuki outside the war-torn country. Thus, for the first time in her life, the now named Yamiko got to know true peace. She got to live with the Kensens for the following years.

During that time, Yumiko, adapted to a life of violence, had problems getting used to a life without it. Thus, with the help of Natsuki, she got into combat sports to satisfy her violent needs. Yamiko proved to be a natural and she quickly became good at boxing, kickboxing and MMA. She had a particular love for kickboxing, so she often got into competitions on it. Live started to smile once again for the child soldier~!

Then general Kensen died

The assassination of general Kensen, the father of Natsuki and her brother Kenji, finished the peace that Yamiko knew. Even worst, the assassin, a woman called Shizuka the Crimson Lotus escaped and kidnapped Kenji!! The general has always been cold, but Yamiko loved Kenji.... She always thought of him like a big brother. And now that bitch took him from her! Natsuki protested Yamiko going after the Crimson Lotus, saying that Kenji was ok.

But then he also die....

Yamiko always knew that Natsuki was hiding something from her about Kenji and the Crimson Lotus. But Yamiko did not get answers from her and she loved her too much to angrily press her for them. Thus, despite the warnings of not to seek revenge from Natsuki, Yumiko went back to the battlefield. The Crimson Lotus was a kunoichi... A bounty hunter. She was infamous and it is also rumor that she killed her entire village alone. Thus, Yamiko researched clues about here whereabouts... Until she found one of her contacts a year later. After one ugly interrogation, she found the place where her target lived. And then, at last, she meet her target at a Shrine that she made her home. Finally Kenji was going to be avenged! Having prepared for this for an entire two years, Yamiko directly confronted her target! Engaged in battle! And...

Got totally DESTROY.

It was not even a fight. The Crimson Lotus dominated the fight and during it, her target questioned her, got satisfied with having enough information about Yamiko's purpose, and then proceed to bet her into submission and unconsciousness. Then, next thing Yamiko knows, she is at her enemy's bed, with her wounds treated. Her enemy visits her… And Natsuki too! Then, she gets to learn the story of the kunoichi Shizuka and the fates of her husband Kenji and baby daughter....

She and Kenji fell in love the mission to assassinate general Kensen. Despite this, both continue to love each other and fled. When she gets pregnant, she cannot protect both, thus Kenji gets killed and she captured with her daughter. Shizuka's father kills her daughter in spite and Shizuka proceed to massacre the entire village. Also, Natsuki knew about this, but did not want to tell Yamiko because at the time, she was angry at her brother for loving Shizuka despite her murdering her father, and she hates Shizuka because not only she killed her father, but also got her brother killed. Now knowing all of this…. Yamiko feels devasted… And betrayed by Natsuki. Thus, at first chance once her injuries are gone, she runs away from the shrine, despite Natsuki’s pleases to not go.

Although she loves Natsuki, her actions destroyed Yamiko’s trust on her…Making it the last time Yamiko will see Natsuki for the following years. Natsuki tried to regain contact, but Yamiko ignores all the time.

Still, the emotional pain pushed Yamiko back towards her origins…. The battlefield. Refusing to be a terrorist anymore and having gotten a moral code in the past years, Yamiko at falsifies papers to enter the military at 17, since she could not wait to her 18s that were coming close. Quickly, her talent was recognized and put into the special operations despite her age and protest of some people that started care about Yamiko in the leadership and worry about her health…. Been her depression… Or sometimes panic attacks from PTSD. Thus, they try to send her into civilian life often.

There, she trying to use combat sports to still keep her inner violence in check, but she cannot fix her depression. It is during a bar fight…. That she gets to meet Rebecca. At first both could not stand each other in the first minutes… Rebecca having passion and Yamiko been indifferent, cold, and sometimes using disturbing dark humour….

Still, Rebecca could see it on Yamiko’s eyes. The pain, the depression… And sometimes the urge to simply ended. Rebecca…. Having witness similar eyes on her mother, could not bring herself to hate Yamiko for her personality. Moreover, It went against Rebecca’s believes to let someone as strong as Yamiko crumble that this. Thus, Rebecca took into herself the responsibility of taking care of Yamiko. At the end, for the following mouths, Rebecca encouraged Yamiko to live in her house since Yamiko lived alone. And it is like this, that Yamiko got to know the Herrera family. Both daughter and mother, Rebecca and Lisa Herrera. Rebecca’s mother, Lisa, quickly took a like of Yamiko and soon began treating her like her own daughter. This greatly improved greatly Yamiko’s depression and mood… But did not take away the memories and the occasional panic attacks.

One night, Rebecca and Lisa woke at Yamiko’s screams… And got to calm her down. This is when the finally finally got to know Yamiko’s story. Her lost childhood, the atrocities that she did, and even after that her impulse for violence…. By the end, Yamiko expected the family to reject her…. But instead, she got a hug. Then… Yamiko finally let all her pain out, all the tears, and she got to find peace again at last. Rebecca and her got even more close together and become best friends and sisters in all but blood. The same goes for Rebecca’s mother… Becoming the mother figure of both girls. Yamiko continue to serve in special forces… Not to seek violence, but to both help financially and also protect her new family.
