Valenzuela: Marty’s is a sports bar with a twist. Instead of just watching boxing matches on a wide-screen TV, patrons can watch live matches in a 20 x 20 ft ring right in the center of the bar! The boxing is up close and personal at Marty’s. And tonight, I’m signed up to step into that ring. As I enter the bar, I look over the ring with its multi-colored ropes and see a lively crowd of patrons having drinks, their excitement palpable as they eagerly wait for the action to start.
Valenzuela:
Valenzuela: On the board, I see tonight’s event: Karla (5 ft 3 in, 120 lbs, 32 years old) versus Kate (5 ft 7 in, 140 lbs, 35 years old). I’ve heard Kate is formidable with her fists, whether gloved or not, but I’ve been training hard for this fight, and I feel confident. Standard boxing rules apply, but since this is an unsanctioned fight at a local bar, they’re not strict about enforcing weight classes. Typically, the ref won’t call a TKO; it’s win by submission or KO, and most fights here end in a KO. I sure hope this Kate woman has good medical insurance!
Valenzuela: In the small locker room provided to me, I change into my fight gear. I slip into short blue trunks and a white sports bra. My white boxing boots feel snug on my feet, and my hair is braided into a ponytail to keep it out of my face. With my fists wrapped in brown gauze, I insert them into bright green 8 oz boxing gloves. A light smear of Vaseline across my face to prevent cuts, and I’m ready. The adrenaline surges through me as I bite down on my white mouth guard. I’m ready to take on Kate.
Valenzuela:
Valenzuela: Back in the bar, the atmosphere is electric. The patrons are buzzing with anticipation, their eyes flicking between the ring and the fighters preparing for the main event. The lights dim slightly, and a spotlight illuminates the ring. The loud speaker crackles, as the announcer adds to the tension in the air by testing the system.
Valenzuela: I have invited @RolenWrithe to join #Kate_vs_Karla.
RolenWrithe: Very excited to witness one of the best fighters I know go to work against a worthy opponent. Good luck Kate, kick her ass!
kateintense: goes without saying buddy boy. Now....
kateintense: Not Allowed : throwing into the ring of popcorn, items of clothing , or flowers for Kate
kateintense: throw money.
kateintense: I notice my opponent has been given the old and small locker room, while here I am in the large women's locker area. I smiled a bit when I saw that, but it fits. My opponent is largely unknown in this gym, and I haven't scouted her. Yet we are the top of the card, so she must be good, and I have sure heard good things.
kateintense: My friend Kathy has helped me suit up, and now I am back from my warm-up with Kat on the mitts, looking in the mirror at a 5-7, 140 lb, fit, and also curvy fighter with visible muscle definition. I feel very at home in my black nylon tank top with a deep V-neck that mounds up my 36DD breasts, for all the guys, especially my man Steve. Underneath my top is a black sports bra. I chose black with red trim short old-school trunks and my beloved black Reyes 8 oz gloves with the screaming red skulls airbrushed on the strike zone. Yes, I smile at the image the mirror shows me, just YESS.
kateintense: I stride out to the ring, waving at friends in the crowd, and up the steps I go to the red corner. Bouncing lightly left to right, I look across the ring to assess my opponent. I see a fighter, lighter and shorter than me. That’s gonna help me, and I welcome any help. I see you are ready to go, with a determined look in your eyes, and you look stronger than I expected. Time to bring the Big Hurt! I am gonna make this chick sorry her mother ever even met her father. Then I turn and throw a few fast punches into the corner pad. Bap-Bap …READY.
Valenzuela: I keep shadow boxing as my opponent enter the ring, a light coating of sweat already covering my golden brown skin. I look over at my opponent, a heavier and taller woman. I SLAP my green gloves together aggressively, and then we get called to the ring centre by the ref to go over her rules, she ends saying “protect yourselves at all times, and tap gloves now should you wish” I stick my gloves out to tap, but just stare blankly at my opponent, and return to my corner to wait for the bell.
kateintense:
Valenzuela:
kateintense: I walk with a lil sway out to meet you in the center and listen to the usual ref speech while drilling blue flashing fire from my blue eyes into your distracted, or very nervous, brown eyes. I return the glove bump and get back to my corner, palming in my red mouthguard on the way. Seating the mouthguard, I am curling experienced fists into my best gloves, waiting for the bell with one final centering breath.
Valenzuela:
Valenzuela: I continue to watch you after you strut back to your corner. And it does not take long, the bell rings, DING! and I move quickly towards the centre in an orthodox stance, bouncing lightly on the balls of my feet, and bobbing side to side to create confusion. I move fast to claim the centre as mine! Daring you to try to move me. Green gloves raised, left extended. I want to dominate the fight from the very start, so I send a jab towards your forehead trying to get your guard higher, and then hoping you raised your guard, I try to sweep a right uppercut towards your lower floating ribs, twisting my hips to increase the power, and then as I reload the right, a right hook towards your jaw line, trying to sweep it over your left shoulder as I step right, intending to dominate early on.
kateintense: The dance begins! I easily parry the jab away and draw my guard close. You surprise me with a low hit to the rib and I get the first sharp pain, bunch a bit to it. Still, I can slide left and send my own upper low for the center gut and go more left as your right grazes the top of my head. I raise up behind to whip around a serious left jab toward your right eye, then step back and keep going left to circle. Nice, I think as I feel the soreness in my side; she is good.
Valenzuela: My jab gets blocked easily, but it does its job and gets your guard and attention high, so I land a nasty upper into your ribs, and it lands solid. My right is mostly weaved under, but grazes the top of the head, you respond fast, landing a quick left upper into my navel, forcing me to tighten my abs as the punch comes in under my extended right, and then rather than pulling back your left and using your right as I expect, you snap out a serious jab into my right eye, snapping my head back. I just see a skull coming at me on a red glove! I blink a few times, and while the eye may discolor, I think it will not swell much yet. I take a deep breath and come back at you, trying to first sweep a left hook around your right guard towards yoour jaw, as I step left, then try to pound a nasty right straight through your guard towrds your nose.
kateintense: Going left, I see you load a hook and twist some to take it on my right arm, with a bit of power off it as it hits with me moving away from it. You go a step further to line up a straight, and I fade from it, throwing my right leg around behind a bit and trying to shoot my left under yer extended right, aiming to score on your chin, and step back away to set my guard.
Valenzuela: My opponent blocks my left hook, and then does some quick foot work, to avoid my right straight, and then even better foot work to come in again and launch a punch come up under my extended right and hitting into my jaw, as I try to twist my face left. It punches in hard, and my head rocks back, I stumble back a couple of steps, and quickly reform my guard extending my left leg in a protective stance.
kateintense: Bam, I score the upper with a boom connection and it rocks you. I follow toward you seeing I can't take advantage of your stumble. As I get near after you put up a standard guard, I throw a jab across to bang your left out of the way, seeking to clear a path for my right to shoot a straight into your left eye, hoping all you will see is a red skull come screaming at your eye, and recoil right to hook a left at your ribs.
Valenzuela: I blink my eyes a few times to clear my head after taking that hard left on the jaw, and getting ready to defend against you assault that will likely come quickly. And it does. A quick jab comes out to cross over to move my left glove, which it does, and then that ugly right skulled gloves shoots out, but I'm ready this time, and and slip my head to my left to let your right pass over my right shoulder as I also step left, as your try to recoil your right glove for a hook at my ribs, I try to beat you to the punch and shoot a straight jab out at your right eye, and then your right lands on my ribs, forcing a grimace from me, but I stay in the pocket and try a right cross at your right eye......
kateintense: The timing is not right; you are so quick, so my right hits air, making my momentum from the right straight carry me forward toward you. Drawing back quickly to get punching distance, I give you the distance and you pop my head back good with a fast jab. I feel my hook land nice and solid and get a cross hitting in to knock my head to the right. In close, I body bump you, trying to use my weight to set you back, swinging a left low over the shoulder overhand, looking to land on your right eye, recoil left to punch my right straight at the center of your face, then step left and lower to hook a left at yer waistband... step back and keep the circling.
Valenzuela: I'm thinking I've got you, my jab connects, my right straight connects, but you come in fast to use your heavier body to slam into me, forcing me back, nearly loosing my footing, and then that left swings over my shoulder overhand to POUND into my right eye. This was a disorienting punch, you recoil the right to go for a straight to my face, but I stick my left glove in the path to block it, as you step left, I step left, increasing the distance that your left hook as to travel, so it only tags my waist band. My right eye now aches, and I feel a little swelling, and pull back towards the ropes, to reset my guard, and come at you trying a left/right straight punch combo to try to blow through your guard and reach the centre of your face.
kateintense: SWEET... I now know my greater weight does help and my money shot overhand lands hard and rattles you. The straight gets blocked as expected. Your moving away from it works to take the power off the low hook, but you move back and I stay put, then I back away and draw my guard in as you come at me. We are too far apart for your gloves to blow my close guard. Your gloves kiss my guard and I step in to set a good punch range and reach from the floor to send a wicked hard right uppercut pushed off my leg and whipping my back to torque in the power. Now I chase in if that works for a follow-up fist cutting up and reaching for your head. So close I grab to cover your arms if I can catch them in a clinch... pushing you toward the ropes behind you.
Valenzuela: My straight punch combo only touch your gloves, as misjudge the distance, then you step in closer, your right glove goes low, so it tells me an uppercut is coming, but where? Its going to be a monster so I lean back far as I can, letting it swoop in front of my face. You realise you've missed and don't over extend, but as I'm opening my right guard to try a hook at your head, you have snapped a second uppercut off, as I'm also comming forward, that punches into my jaw, snapping my head back, and then my left arm gets wrapped, but your left arm goes under my right as I was going for a hook to your head, but now I'm muscled into the ropes!. I try to send a short, choppy hook to the side of your face with my right.
kateintense: DAMN it flashes through my mind and I grit down on my gumshield as my big upper only fans your face! You lean away just right for my second upper try lands solid and you get a bit of a glance at the ceiling and the next thing I feel is the ropes bowing out with me all over you. You try a throw that does nothing being so close and hitting the side of my head. Gotta hurt hitting granite! I rest a bit instead of punching in our hug as I feel my gas is getting low in the tank, but still pissed at my bedtime upper not putting you to sleep. I shove off you with an escape left jab at the center of your face, dip low, and stand solid to pump a straight right looking to get under for a dead-on slam into your solar plexus. And again throw a left upper to connect with your head if pain and the panic of being unable to breathe brings your head down, and charge back into you to keep up the pressure and put you on the ropes.
Valenzuela: You’ve taken advantage of your heavier and more muscled body to bully me back into the ropes, pinning my left arm to my side, leaving my right arm free to take short shots to the side of your face. My head is spinning after that upper to my jaw, or maybe the ring is spinning. Who the fuck knows? The heat of our bodies now begin to become intense as they press together, I move my right leg further apart, to gain greater stability and almost wish this was a real brawl as I would have other skill assets that I could use here. But we box. In this situation, the element of surprise is on your side, as only you know when you will release the clinch. Suddenly you break free, pushing yourself off, my left glove is down, right glove up, but a fast jab compresses your red skulled glove over my nose until I can feel your actual fist pounding into my nose, and as that glove comes off, blood starts dripping from both nostrils as my head snaps back, further disorienting me. My back presses into the ropes, bending the top one deeply, but as I try to come back and regain my footing, the right straight SLAMS into my midsection, and it just stuns me with pain radiating out in just about every direction, my gloves lower as the left uppercut swings through the middle of my guard, and nearly lifts me off the canvass as it rocks my chin. My knees buckle, and drive into the canvass as I fall forward, after the spring in the ropes propel me forward. My brain bashes around in side my skull as everything goes dark and I face plant on the canvass. Knocked the fuck out! .
kateintense: When you get knocked around like this and the tank is low, it feels like a flurry of fists even if they are placed punches. The jab hit hard enough to get me my escape out and low dip. This is feeling like a fistfight... wish it was... I need to fuckin' KISS this bitch! Then bam, the jab hits, I see blood and thrill to it. You are as unfocused and tired as me, I find out, as you can't stay off the ropes. Then holy shit. Wham, I land off target but close enough to your SP to drop your hands. That charges up yet another uppercut. And this time you do look at the ceiling. I know I missed my dead-on landing, but I made those nerves fire. I have felt that pain myself in fights, the panic and inability to move. My second wind thrill sailed past lowered gloves and suddenly you take a knee... that means points from the judges. I stand there panting and watching. Not just take a knee, in seconds your eyes unfocus and you fall forward with no need for a ref to count. Damn, I just stand there looking at your back. I was about to be where you are, nearly eating canvas. I put one gloved fist in the air and drop it down and only stand there, sweat-drenched and panting, as the ref and my corner come over to shoulder hug me and pull me away. In this bar ring, I have seen people make the defeated one eat their own hair. Seen them facesit. No way-- too much respect for this fallen warrior for me to do that!!!

Certainly cyber boxing with Kate leaves you feeling like you really are in the ring with her. I could feel the pain and panic that sets in when she drilled into my solar plexus, and then it was lights out after taking the uppercut. Kate is a great boxer and I hope to meet her again in the ring or cage or where ever fate takes us.
